Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, better known as “Bad Bunny,” is a young urban music singer-songwriter who has risen as the most prominent Latin trap artist of this generation. Already coined as “The King of Trap,” Bad Bunny has dominated the world with his music, accruing billions of views in his videos on his official YouTube channel and sitting atop popularity charts on all digital music platforms. Originally from Puerto Rico, Bunny has been surrounded by music since the moment he was born, igniting his passion for the art from an early age. For Christmas and all his birthdays, Bad Bunny would ask his parents for music CDs: rap, reggaetón, salsa, rock, and of his musical influences, artists like Tego Calderón, Vico C, Marc Anthony, among others. He never took formal music lessons or studied any instruments, but his passion led him to learn and perfect his talent on his own. He is a singer, composer and creator of his own songs by his own knowledge, and his music emanates a much more special internal rhythm that any musical training could have had. So much was his love for music that he began creating songs and uploading them to the popular video site, YouTube, and sharing them on social networks, where his fan base began to grow. In mid-2016, Bad Bunny joined Hear This Music, a label created by DJ Luian and Los Mambo Kingz and presented us with the hit “La Ocasión,” the early anthem of Latin Trap music. Bad Bunny has demonstrated his overwhelming power, influence and demand, dominating the U.S., Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe with numerous sold-out concerts and tours. Moreover, he has ignited the stages of several award ceremonies, including the Billboard Latin Music Awards, the Latin American Music Awards, Premios Juventud, and the Latin GRAMMY, among others, award ceremonies to which he has received numerous nominations in various categories. The artist has achieved unprecedented success with singles such as “Estamos Bien,” “Chambea,” “Diles,” “Soy Peor” and “Tu No Vives Así,” as well as his massive collaborations including “I Like It,” with Cardi B and J Balvin; “Krippy Kush” with Farruko, Nicki Minaj and Travis Scott; and “Mia” with Drake. His talent has been unmistakable, and it is so unique that he has seamlessly transitioned to the general market, performing on stage at the American Music Awards, Coachella Music Festival and even on one the most popular TV show in the U.S., The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. One of the highlights of his career has been his collaboration with Cardi B anf J Balvin on “I Like It,” a massive hit that has catapulted him even further in the mainstream general market, reaching the #1 position of Billboard’s Hot 100 chart – a historic feat as it marks the second Latin song to ever reach this position in the chart. Showcasing his reach, Bunny has also had the distinction of being the first Latin artist to appear on the cover of Complex magazine, alongside J Balvin, as well as being featured in the cover of Fader magazine, two of the main urban music glossies in the world. Bunny’s talent not only flourishes on stage and in performances, the artist has also participated in the Latin Trap Panel, part of the Billboard Latin Music Conference 2017; presented the first six episodes of TrapKingz, the first Spanish show on Beats 1, Apple Music’s global radio station; was highlighted in Billboard Magazine’s Preview 2018, which positions him as one of the artists with the most potential for the new year; and was selected as the first urban music artist in Apple Music’s “Up Next,” which highlights only the best artists to watch out for. With a short but stunning career, Bad Bunny has had colossal levels of success, with his music transcending boundaries and reaching unparalleled levels of popularity and success for a Latin urban artist. Bad Bunny billions of views on YouTube and an overwhelming number of visits on other digital platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal and Pandora, pens his as one of the top Latin urban artists of the moment and one of the pioneers of the Latin Trap movement.
